At First Congregational Church, our Youth Group is open to all sixth through twelfth graders. We are a lively group dedicated to fellowship, fun and faith. We meet at least three times a month either at the church for discussion and games, or for events like bowling, mini-golf, retreats and trips to NYC to participate in activities such as NightWatch at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the hunger awareness-related Canstruction exhibit, the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit and other concerts or plays. We also help with many events at church including the Welcome Back Brunch, Advent Festival and church clean up days.
Service is important to our Youth Group and we participate in many outreach activities. Some of our past activities include doing four to five Bridges Runs to Newark or New York City a year, helping with a yearly Super Bowl Party for the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless, serving at soup kitchens with the Youth Service Opportunities Project in NYC and participating in the 30 Hour Famine. An integral part of the youth group planning are our Youth Leaders who work with Rev. Mounts to plan our meetings and events. They also help run meetings and games as well as lead discussions.
Our summer Mission Trip is always one of the highlights of the year. The trips have become a summer tradition with many participants coming back when they are college students to help chaperone. These trips have also had a profound effect on many of the students, sometimes influencing their career choice. The participants help to raise the money for the trip through several fundraisers including a Spaghetti Dinner and Talent Show in February and giant Tag Sale in May. Please see the Mission Trip page for more information.
We would love to have you join us for Youth Group. Please contact Rev. Joy Mounts with questions and for more information. The Youth Group schedule is at the bottom of the page.
Youth YF Leaders will receive emails asking them to once again sign up to help organize and run most of the YF meetings. There is a lot of fun and fellowship being planned–so keep your eyes peeled for emails about upcoming meetings and events.
