Rainbow Experience..................................................

The Rainbow Experience is a theater ministry of First Congregational Church, UCC in Westfield and the United Church of Christ Plainfield. The program began in the spring of 1999. The mission of this partnership is to create a multiracial, multicultural, intergenerational church and community partnership with the goal of bringing together members of both congregations and a diversity of people from the surrounding communities

If you would like more information about the Rainbow Experience or our plans for the Fall Musical, feel free to contact church member, Jessica Beltz at 908-754-4837.

  • Drawing on the expertise of church and community professionals and volunteers, the first production, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, was presented in March of 2000; in March of 2001 we presented Godspell and received great reviews. This year we will produce Cinderella.
  • The Rainbow Experience teaches and affirms positive values and builds self-esteem. The objective, to create opportunities for youth and adults from culturally segregated backgrounds to work together in the performing arts, is a clear success.
  • Based on our past success we have been awarded a much-coveted Union County Arts Grant. This grant will make it possible to offer four Rainbow master classes this year in addition to the major production in March. We were also awarded both a $5,500 grant from the Westfield Foundation for the purchase of sound equipment and another $2500 grant from the NJ Association of the United Church of Christ.
  • In creating this church/community partnership program advisors, the producer, Jessica Beltz, Westfield, and the Rev. Jim Colvin, Plainfield, seek a broad base of support from schools and community organizations. Rainbow participants come from both congregations, as well as Temple Emanu-El, the Community Church of God, the Plainfield and Westfield High Schools and the Scotch Plains, Roselle, and Cranford High Schools and Middle Schools, as well as the Plainfield Performing Arts Center.
