What is the WaySharers?
The WaySharers is a faith based outreach program for adults with developmental disabilities. WaySharers provides opportunities to meet with each other as well as non-disabled adults, each sharing their unique gifts and talents in a relaxed and fun setting.
WaySharers: A History
The First Congregational Church of Westfield has been a home to several developmentally disabled adults. Some had grown up in the church. As these people graduate high school, they experience a need for more socially interactive programs.
In April 2003, in cooperation with The First Congregational Church of Westfield, The WaySharers was started. WaySharers is a faith based interdenominational outreach program for adults with developmental disabilities. We have grown from a 7 member group to 24 members with a volunteer team of 14.
This ministry began as a dream and now it has become a reality.
The WaySharers meet regularly two times a month on Friday nights from 7pm to 9pm at the First Congregational Church, 125 Elmer Street, Westfield, NJ. The first Friday of the month is scheduled for yoga, while the second meeting occurs later in the month with a unique pre-planned activity such as game night or Mardi Gras.
To Become A WaySharer
We invite developmentally disabled adults age 18 and over to join us in this innovative program to promote cooperation and social interaction.
We invite adults interested in becoming mentors to join us. Training is provided. Your commitment will be according to your availability (one Friday night a month- or as little as once a year).
