This Sunday, as our series on the Lord's Prayer nears its conclusion, we reach what is, in some versions, the final line: “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” Part of the inherently human condition is that we encounter temptation, struggle with sin, and confront the reality of evil in our world. As we pray this part of the prayer, are we suggesting that God could lead us toward temptation? Or are we asking for guidance as we face the human reality in our everyday lives?
