Christmas at First Congregational Church
All are invited to the events and worship marking Advent & Christmas
at First Congregational Church of Westfield!
About our Worship Series: “Questioning Christmas: How Curiosity Changes Everything.”
Advent is a season of waiting - but not passive waiting. It’s a season of attentiveness, humility, and openness to God’s surprises. It’s a time to notice what we don’t yet know, to wonder, and to stay curious. What if we approached this season not with answers, but with questions? Curiosity is the antidote to the “we already know how this goes” mindset that numbs the spirit. When we stay curious, we begin to ask questions that open space for God’s surprises:
What might God be doing in the corners of our lives we ignore?
Who might God be speaking through that we’ve overlooked?
How could our assumptions be closing us off from grace?
Curiosity lets us suspend judgment long enough to be amazed. It invites us to adopt a posture of openness, like the prophets, like Mary, like Joseph. It awakens our eyes to joy, hope, and grace in places we might never have expected. This Advent, we are invited to ask questions - not because we need to have answers, but because in the asking, we make room for God. To wonder is to prepare; to notice is to wait; to question is to celebrate. Bring your questions and your curiosity as we explore how they can transform the way we see the world, the way we wait, and the way we welcome Christmas - and discover how staying curious might just change everything.
